MikeyPod 284 | Writer/Performer Kim Katzberg

December 23, 2019 by Michael Harren

Award winning queer writer/performer Kim Katzberg and I went deep in this conversation! We talk about her latest solo show, Dad in a Box, which follows her struggle to gain access to her emotional core, while she attempts to process the just-announced impending death of her abusive father. Kim and I talked over-sharing, healing grief through making theater, and holy smokes, so much more!

Kim Katzberg is an award-winning queer theater artist who has has been creating genre-bending solo work since 2010. Of her 2011 breakout show Penetrating The Space, the NY Times wrote, “Penetrating the Space has a glowing, vulnerable, haunting center.” Dad in a Box is Katzberg’s latest, winning a NY Innovative Theatre Award for “Outstanding Solo Performance” in 2019.

Music:
Put the Lights on the Tree – Sufjan Stevens
Hockey – Jane Siberry (Jane appeared on episode 111 of this here podcast)

I especially loved this interview! I saw her show in person last night and was absolutely blown away. Such a great artist! Thanks for checking out the podcast (as always) Shawn!
