MikeyPod 224 | Author and Social Media Virtuoso Ariel Hyatt

January 16, 2017 by Michael Harren

I met Ariel Hyatt soon after I started this podcast in 2006. She was one of the first publicists to realize the potential that podcasting had for independent artists, so she was quick to start promoting her artists to music podcasters like me. Ariel has been a fierce entrepreneur for 20 years and runs Cyber PR, a boutique PR company based right here in Brooklyn, NY. Her agency places clients on blogs & podcasts, establishes their online brands, and coaches them to create authentic relationships. She has spoken in 12 countries and is the author of four books on social media for artists, two of which have hit number one on Amazon. Cyber PR handled the release of my album and book, Tentative Armor, and what I learned during that process continues to shape how I create and share my work.

Ariel and I hung out in her cozy office on a chilly Friday afternoon chatting about her passion for building community and her new book, Crowdstart: The Ultimate Guide to a Powerful and Profitable Crowdfunding Campaign. Anytime I’m asked questions about social media or building a fan base, I am either quoting Ariel or referring someone directly to her website. For real, y’all, Ariel knows her stuff and she knows how to share it in a way that anyone can understand and put into action. I am so thrilled to share this conversation with you.

About Michael Harren

Brooklyn-based composer and performer Michael Harren combines elements of classical composition with experimental electronics and storytelling to create hypnotic and boldly intimate work that walks the line between Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel and Dead Can Dance.
